  • Nelson Mandela was freed.
  • Smoking was banned on domestic flights.
  • NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope.
  • Johnny Carson retired from “The Tonight Show.”
  • Jon Bon Jovi’s No. 1 hit, “Blaze of Glory,” was nominated for a Grammy® and an Academy Award®.

  • I became a radio broadcaster at the age of 15.
