I just want to commend the BLC team for "knowing their audience" (at least this particular member) in designing and kicking off the challenge. As someone who is new to the challenge, missed the BLC lunch, and is looking for the most user-friendly features, I read my welcome packet/recipe cards from start to finish, and already changed my purchasing habits last night at Whole Foods to favor organic more than I would have normally. This was largely due to the advice on the Decisions, Decisions page that offers alternatives to solely buying local: If not local, organic. If not organic, family farm. And so on. So I chose Washington State apples over New Zealand (hopefully fall will bring close-to-home options!), wild-raised haddock over the farm-raised alternatives, etc. (Although I did have to bag the "talk to your vendor" suggestion last night as I was accompanied by a child close to meltdown.) This may seem obvious to those more entrenched in the movement, but for me, it's baby steps . . . which the packet accommodated. Way to go, guys.
Wish I could praise Brooke on the strata, but I'm an eggophobe and thus did not partake. I'm sure it was delish. I did gobble up the fruit . . . and was inspired to choose peaches at the store based on the nectarines that were served. So far so good!
