American Psychological Association – Psychotherapy: More than a Quick Fix Initiative
Psychotherapy sample In 2013, PR News’ Nonprofit PR Awards recognized Vanguard Communications for its work on the American Psychological Association’s (APA) “Psychotherapy: More than a Quick Fix initiative.” APA and Vanguard used digital tactics to promote the effectiveness of psychotherapy, including two animated digital shorts developed in partnership with Free Range Studios, which have garnered nearly 30,000 views.

 PRWeekCroppedImage The PRWeek Awards represent the highest accolade in the PR industry, presented each year to the best corporate, nonprofit, agency, government and education teams and the work they produce. Vanguard was honored in March 2013 with an honorable mention in the “Small PR Agency of the Year” category. A key element of Vanguard’s success was the release of its first Purple Paper™, a free guide to help communicators measure their social change efforts.

2011_VoiceProgram_PRINT_Page_01 The National Health Information Awards recognized Vanguard’s work on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Voice Awards event on August 24, 2011. The annual event celebrates the positive contributions of people with behavioral health challenges, as well as the respectful portrayal of such individuals in Hollywood productions. The 2011 event focused on recovery from trauma, and honored 16 entertainment production award winners, seven consumer/peer winners and three special recognition award winners.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration – 2011 Wellness Initiative
2011WellnessMap (2) In 2011, Vanguard continued its work with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Wellness Initiative, which aims to motivate people, families, behavioral health and primary care providers, consumer-run organizations and behavioral health services to take action for whole-person wellness. In 2011, Vanguard created National Wellness Week and developed partnerships and working relationships to promote the wellness message.

APA blog The Web Health Awards honored the American Psychological Association’s (APA) “Your Mind Your Body” blog, which Vanguard develops, markets and designs. The blog, which offers psychologists’ insights on healthy lifestyles and behaviors, is targeted at women, families and consumers seeking information about health and wellness.

American Psychological Association – Stress in America™: Our Health at Risk
APA_0100 (2) Vanguard conceptualized the annual Stress in America™ survey as a tool to position the American Psychological Association (APA) and psychologists as thought leaders on lifestyle, behavior and preventing disease through effective stress management. For the release of the 2012 survey, Vanguard produced a roundtable discussion about stress and its connection to health and chronic illness. Vanguard’s live video webcast of the event drew more than 600 online viewers.

National Network to End Domestic Violence – “Chefs Take a Stand” Event Materials
NNEDV_spotlight Vanguard contributed its flair for design to the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s (NNEDV) “Chefs Take a Stand” inaugural fundraising event in Washington, D.C. We conceived the “cake shoe” look to convey the event’s collaboration between NNEDV and Women Chefs and Restaurateurs, and wrote and designed the event’s program and other collateral materials, including signage, menu cards for passed food, chef profiles and more. The sold-out evening of food, drinks and a silent auction raised thousands of dollars for NNEDV programs, and was featured in The Washington Post, on dozens of local blogs, and on numerous online event and social calendars.

Campaign for High School Equity – Politico Op-Ed
CHSE Op-Ed In the midst of a challenging policy environment, Vanguard drafted an op-ed for the Campaign for High School Equity (CHSE) that examined how Congress’ failure to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act would affect students of color, Native Americans, migrant students and students from low-income areas. Vanguard incorporated feedback from CHSE staff, partners and policy consultants, then successfully pitched the piece for publication.
