Vanguard Dishes Out Designs for a Good Cause

Vanguard Communications contributed its flair for design pro bono to the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s “Chefs Take a Stand” fundraising event on June 22, 2011 in Washington, D.C. We conceived the “cake shoe” look to convey the event’s collaboration between NNEDV and local members of Women Chefs and Restaurateurs and set a laidback and fun tone for an evening of both substance and style.

The agenda was a mix of education and celebration. We certainly wanted everyone to know about the important work NNEDV does to champion women and families across the country, so their name and URL was prominent on all signage and promotional pieces. But we also took the opportunity to celebrate the amazing women chefs who donated their creative food offerings and cocktails.

Names like Nora Poullion, Ris Lacoste, Jamie Leeds, Tracy O’Grady, Kate Jansen and Ruth Gresser graced the food stations and contributed silent auction items. Chef Carla Hall of “Top Chef” and Paul Wharton of “The Real Housewives of DC” — both of whom served as live auctioneers — added extra energy and spice to the event.

Vanguard wrote and designed the event’s program and other collateral materials, including signage, menu cards for passed food, chef profiles and a dining benefits card featuring promotions at area restaurants. To help NNEDV meet its fundraising goal, Vanguard also provided editorial support to as many as 50 silent auction item descriptions to make them more appealing to potential bidders.

A true labor of love, seven staff members attended the function at their personal expense and made additional contributions through the silent auction and the general fundraising campaign.
