It’s very trendy to use the terms “equity,” “diversity” and “inclusion” within our organizations and often, within our communications work. But how many of us really understand what these concepts mean? How many really understand what equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) promise communities, especially when EDI is combined together?
Recently, I had the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the meanings of these concepts and how they should play out in action at CommonHealth ACTION’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Training Institute. It was an eye-opening learning experience and discussion and inspired many ideas for posts to share on this blog.
In the next few months, I’ll be discussing EDI frequently on In Practice, exploring with you what these terms mean and suggesting ways that we can purposefully implement them in our organizations and into our communications work.
Until then, check out the Storify below that features my insights, as well as others, during this two-day EDI training.
We communicators play a significant role in bringing about a more equitable, diverse and inclusive world. I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve discovered in future posts.
