For the third year, Vanguard has partnered with the Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute to fund Comunicadores for the Future, a paid internship program that supports the next generation of Latinx communicators. Monica Uribe Francisco is one of the program’s 2019 interns.
The third year of the Comunicadores for the Future program is up and running! Our comunicador Monica Uribe Francisco sat down with her Voto Latino teammate Rosa Del Angel, vice president of Digital Strategy & Engagement, to discuss the power of communications.
Q: What led you to a career in communications?
A: Personally, I’ve always been interested in storytelling, but I came across communications as a profession by chance. After graduating college, I took whatever job I could find. I was able to get a job at Group Reforma, the largest newspaper in Mexico, as a part of their web team. I quickly moved up the ladder to an editor. The rest was history!
Q: What is your favorite communications platform or channel and why? (This can be professional or personal!)
A: My favorite communications channel is social media. Currently, I use Instagram the most. There I find a good mix of news, culture and community. I also use Twitter to follow debates or breaking news.
Q: What are three words to describe the work your organization is doing?
A: Latinx empowerment and representation!
